CCTV installed at one Bring Bank site as fines issued for illegal dumping.

CONCERNS over illegal dumping at Bring Bank sites in the Cappamore–Kilmallock Municipal District were raised at the December district meeting, where councillors sought clarity on the use of CCTV monitoring to tackle the issue.

The matter was raised by Cllr Brigid Teefy, who asked how many CCTV cameras had been installed at Bring Bank locations across the district and whether fines had been issued in relation to illegal dumping at those sites.

In response, council officials confirmed that CCTV cameras are currently installed at just one Bring Bank site in Kilmallock.
It was further confirmed that two fines have been issued to date for waste and litter offences detected at the Kilmallock Bring Bank since the installation of CCTV at the site.

Illegal dumping at these sites continues to be a persistent issue with councillors repeatedly calling for increased monitoring to deter misuse of the facilities.

Bring Banks are intended for the responsible disposal of recyclable materials, but they are frequently used for household waste and other unauthorised dumping.

Councillor Teefy highlighted that effective monitoring can act as a deterrent and help maintain these facilities for legitimate use by local communities.

The council said it continues to monitor waste management issues across the district.
